Guitar Stand Question

I recently acquired a decent stand used, very sturdy and needing cleaning. It also needs new tubing on the upper and lower yoke/cradle, the parts that actually touch the instrument.

It looks a lot like silicone tubing, as from a hardware store/ or medical supply.
Is that typically used, or is that something that would be good to use to replace this stuff?

You do have to be careful not to use certain rubber materials if you have nitrocellulose finish on your guitar. Otherwise, any sort of soft rubber, silicone, neoprene, foam, etc tubing would work. Though it might be cheaper to just get a new guitar stand. I have a nicer wooden guitar stand that was expensive, but all my floor stands cost around $10-20.

Bicycle handlebar tape.......comes in nice colors too.

You could also pick up some shrink tubing from a place like Harbor Freight and put that on there. Or liquid electrical tape.

Edit: Just checked harbor freights website. They have multiple sizes of shrink tubing in 8ft lengths for $1.88. The liquid electrical tape is more expensive than I remember though at 11 bucks so due to the potential mess and cost that's probably out.

I have replaced the tubing on my upright stand with gas tubing, and after 13 years it's got nary a bit of any damage, nor has it damaged my bass.

After some research, I picked up some clear tubing in the right size... I'll double check its usefulness before I cut it.
If not, I'll just get the silicone surgical stuff at a med supply.
