Guitar wah VS bass wah

Hello TB'ers

I've been playing through my guitarists wah for the past months, and what I've experienced is:
-in combination with my OD, ther's a chance of feedback
-cuts my low-end (kinda obvious)

To make everything clear; this IS a great Dunlop Wah without the switch (think it was around $130)

Now, my question is; is there a BIG difference between the bass wah and the regular one?
Offcourse, I know there are differences because they're two different pedals and the other one is designed for bass...But is it worth another $130 investment? (I only use it in one or two songs in our set)

It depends on how much you worry about either issue (ie loss of bass and propensity to feedback). If they bother you, then yes, it's worth it. If not, go ahead and keep using it.

A bass specific wah will definitely ameliorate the loss of bass problem and will likely be less prone to feedback with your OD. The latter isn't quite as sure.

That Dunlop crybaby wah is not one of my favorites, btw.

IIRC, the crybaby bass wah works differently than the guitar wah...bass one is more like an envelope filter or something like that. Anybody with any technical experience can probably elaborate better than I on that.

I used guitar Wahs for years. I tried the bass Wah and didnt like it

A bass wah covers a lower set of frequencies. I have the bass crybaby (no switch), and I don't lose any bass with it, and I don't get any feedback.

i don't like the dunlop bass wah because it cannot stay in a certain position.. u leave it and it switches off.. that sucks
i use a mooger LPF with an exp pedal in the cutoff for wah like effects

Yes it does, but this also gives you a way better bypass signal than the dunlop bass wah

Tried it and it was way too thin sounding to me. Went back to good ol trusty 105q.
My advice - go for the bass wah.

Yea, I'm not exactly an effects noob. I tested all the settings. The frequency points aren't to my liking and I don't care for the boost switch, I much prefer the volume control on 105Q. The tone just wasn't to my liking. We all have our preferences.

You're right, we all use wahs for different purposes I use mine mainly to cut through bands mix for some fills.

In the Crybaby wah the only difference is one cap. Change the .01 to a .068uf cap and you have a bass wah.
It's the one parallel to the inductor iirc

i have a 105q and i have no complaints . the 105q has more of a envelope sound filter sound compared to guitar wahs. i find that the 105q is not so good for higher notes, but it depends on your gear and the q settings.

the 535q is good. i may get it sometime.





if you like the sound of an effect and can use it, then use it.

btw, 105q = groove/rhythm and 535q = solos
