Guy Pratt on his work with Madonna

I’m a long time fan of Sparks. But I’m having a little trouble making the connection between them and what I said about somebody like Madonna.

wasn't this thread about Guy Pratt? in the context of "It’s been said “integrity leads to longevity.”" (of Guy Prat)? No? Madonna Is still around but she almost wasn't a little while ago...

Whoa! According to Wikipedia, yes. I had no idea. I wondered why I've always loved that bassline.

I checked on Wikipedia (I know it can be wrong.) Bernard Edwards is listed as bassist on track 1,3,5,7. Hearing CME cover Material Girl triggered my memory of Bernard on that track.

Haha, Guy is a fantastic player, and that lines up with stories I've heard from other pros working with super-duper-mega stars.
"Am I in or out? Do they hate me? Do I have the gig?"

I was fortunate to do sound for another of Madonna's bass players, Bill Lanphier (I think he did the Like A Prayer tour).
This was in San Francisco, early '00s where he was playing with an insanely tight and quirky Bulgarian folk fusion band called Top Dog Run.
Time signatures might change every other bar from 7/8 to 11/8 to 46/137 to the speediest oom-pah polka and back again
But it sounded so natural and there were people dancing outrageously to it all night.
Bill put his little GK combo on a chair in the corner and it carried the room, I barely had him in the mains.
I had a great talk with Bill that night and regret that I never took lessons from him before he passed (he lived about 10 miles away). But seeing him play and knowing the other things he'd done was a lesson in itself.

Hi Winston, I may still have the GK combo and am looking to find it a new home.
