I have one of these little units, and really like it. However, I have always thought that they were all tube pre/power amp, but I found the following info:
"For those not familiar with the Bass Master, there is a pre-amplifier solid state input buffer/gain stage followed by a double triode (12ax7) with bass mid and treble boost switches and a dual tone control (one knob that performs bass boost in one direction or treble boost / bass cut in opposite direction)."
So, my, probably stupid, question is: why the ss buffer/gain stage? Is it there instead of putting in another preamp tube? Can it be removed from the signal path (although I assume it would lower the gain of the unit in that case)?
As I said, I like the Bassmaster as is, I just starter thinking, since I'm reading up on tube amps.
