HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!

Australia has the longest section of straight railroad track in the world; about 287 statute miles IIRC. I'll look for a link. Yes, I'm a train freak.
As soon as you said this, I immediately thought "The Nullabor". I used to work for an Accountancy firm that did the books for the Australian Railway Historical Society. I used to go to their offices once a month and do whatever needed doing I was expecting a tiny little office/book shop and I was right. What I wasn't expecting was the volume of books sold. We're talking millions of dollars a week sold to railway nuts all over the world. I had no idea it was such a popular hobby. Invalid Link Removed for the link.

Some friends of mine rode their motorbikes along the Nullabor once. They nearly went stir-crazy with lonliness and dehydration. They claim, and I can't back this up, that they would start the day with a tree on horizon. They would ride at over 100km/h (63mph) for several hours and at the end of it, that same tree was still on the horizon.
