For those who care about such things, this month marks the 80th anniversary of the introduction of the venerable 6L6 beam power tetrode. A staple of many instrument amps, the 6L6 continues strong to this day. Not a bad run for an electronic device! If you're interested in learning more about its history, feel free to PM me.

My son saw me drawing up a tube circuit (no plans on building it -- the sweepable midrange that I posted on the electric bass side). So I got to explain how a triode works, and what a revolution it was.

Eric Barbour did an article in issue #4 of the now defunct Vacuum Tube Valley Magazine on the 60th anniversary of the 6L6 (1996). You can download that issue (as well as the others) from here:
