You've heard of "the day the music died". I think that was about Buddy Holly and the others. That was about three generations ago.
I have sometimes wondered whose death might mark the end of music for me, in that sense. I think of who I had the most hero-worship for, when I was at the age for that, or whose music I most loved.
I probably loved more when I was younger, then hero worshipped a little later. Maybe love outweighs hero-worship, but the ones I loved most, like Johnny Cash, are already gone. But I was a Stones fan through both of those periods ("younger" and "later").
It might be Keith Richards. But I can't really weigh this feeling now. Maybe I'll never have to.
