FWIW the best crowd response of any 90s song I've ever played has consistently been for "Be My Lover" by La Bouche. I've done it acoustic, too. But, of course, it's not very hard rock/grunge.

Hard Rock/Grunge Acoustic Band?

Yeah, the core of the setlists will be grunge. But even for those that weren't grunge fans in the 90s, a couple of guys with acoustics mellows it out a bit and makes it a little coffee shop-esque. We are adding songs like stray cat strut (def not grunge), wanted dead or alive, every breath you take, thinking about this love (pantera - slowed down), simple man and freebird.

i would suggest you have the bass as full electric with a touch of overdrive but turned down behind two acoustic guitars. Thats not a bad formula, and even drop keys sound better that way too IMO.

I was going to say the same thing.
we were supposed to play with these guys once. They dropped the show when the bassist from AIC died and only 2 bands (ours and another) showed up. All the others dropped the show. We brought 80 people between us though.
The next time they came through we weren't invited to the bill but I went anyways. The dude looked horrible. Obviously not just out of rehab as he had claimed. He brought about 8 different acoustic guitars where they went into his own mixer. All this on a little tiny stage in what was basically a dive bar. About halfway through he started yelling at some pretty young "assistant" girl of his to get him a towel and he refused to play anymore until somebody found him a towel.
He also looked like Beetlejuice. Not a good situation.
