Double Bass Hardshell URB case suggestions?

Hello all,
I'm looking to replace my ProTec bass trunk (nylon over foam with broken zippers) with something that will stand up to occasional airline travel. I've seen the Tuff-Lite, Kolstein, and Gage travel cases, and they all strike me as too big and heavy, not to mention expensive! Are there any good options in the 40 lb range that will stand up to airline travel? I'm looking hard at the Enthral case from Jim Laabs (Invalid Link Removed) ... Does anyone have experience with this case?
Thank you,
Danny Booth

Hey Dan, I have an SBS bass trunk and an Enthral from Jim Laabs.

They are both white but there's really no comparison between the two when it comes to strength. The Enthral is a good choice for van/truck/trailer/bus travel to protect the bridge from getting whacked, the ribs from getting cracked or the scroll from being snapped off ( I'm repairing one of those right now...) but I would use the SBS every time for airline/air freight use.

I should probably sell the Enthral and free up some storage space. (Insert *wry* emoticon here.)

I had, and sold because I hate to travel, a Stevenson carbon-fiber trunk that weighed in well under the 100-pound limit fully loaded.

The kid that bought it from me paid $950, which we thought was fair. Good deals on trunks come along if you can be patient, or you could rent.

Thanks for the info Jake. Hoe much does the SBS weigh? I'm trying to find an official link for the SBS but the String Bass Shop apparently no longer has a website. I really don't want to spend over $2K if I can help it. Any leads on a used case? Thanks.
Hey Dan, I'd say about 60 lbs., but I'm just guessing.

I almost snagged that, and had it delivered no less, but there was a SNAFU with my bank account on a Friday evening so I couldn't put the cash in his hand. The seller is a very nice, very legit guy who's just trying to get his son's old bass trunk out of his storage area.

Bummer - that was a helluva deal!

I have a SBS case I'd like to sell as soon as I find a replacement. My nice bass has a longish scroll, so it doesn't fit well in the SBS, and I will be touring with the bass in a semi loaded by crew guys, so I'm looking for a super duper heavy duty case rather than a lightweight case for air travel. Interested? PM me.

I have flown with the SBS many times. I have air bladders from David gage and some foam in the case. It's a great case. Here's a video where the case makes a cameo.
