Harley Benton BB210T Driver Upgrade

I sold a Yamaha BB3000 some years ago (DOH!) which left me bassless so I have picked up an Ibanez SR1000EFM which is the first active bass I've owned and I love it. I've also just bought a Tech Sound Systems TVM 350 so I now need a cab for it. The TVM can go down to 2ohms so I'm thinking that 2 cabs (HB mods or otherwise) at 4 ohms each will give me max power output....am I right?

I say go for it.. My 2x10 mod sound great.. If you don't have the skills + tools to build, this is an alternative option. Matching drivers to the box is the tricky part..thats where the skills of Arjank came in for me.
If you want to do the same mod as i did, just follow the information in this thread. By the way if you are UK based Blue Aran has 2 Oberton 10B200's in stock.

Thank's FonkBass, thank's Arjank for all your posts. That's a pretty fascinating story to read how a low budget cab can be transformed into a valuable cab. There are a lot folks like me who are unable to build a cab by DIY. My poor skills on wood working restrict me to little cab modifications at most, such as port adjustments.

May be your good success with the HB cab is an exitation for others to "enhance" a budget cab to personal taste?

thank's for the link to the 10B200. The datasheet reads very impressive. Qms around 9.3 that's pretty good. I'm amazed that a rather "budget" speaker like that can be made with die cast aluminium frame. Allthogh ferrit magnet the net weight is only 3.6kg.

Yes, it's my favorite 10" driver, it's price performance ratio is unmatched that's why you would think Oberton drivers are " budget" drivers but they are very high tech.

I think others should go for this modification route to a decent cab. If you have tried low budget cabs like the Hartke Transporter series for an example, i think there is more value in customising the Harley Benton range with drivers that fit the existing cab design. The Oberton's are a perfect balance of cost and quality....

My next project will be modifying the 1x15 Harley Benton..

I own this Harley Benton cab since a few monthes and i'd like to upgrade it.
I've got some questions before :

( I apologise about my english speaking, i'm French )

_ After swapping the original drivers with the Obertons, what will be the impedance of this cab ? And the output power RMS ?
_ what do yo mean about "add lining around the transition between port and cab" ? Can you please send a picture of this modification ?
_ you say " remove and replace the L1 inductor with a wire" : on the pictures, the L1 component is still here : did you finally let this component as original ?
_ you talked about changing the polarity of the tweeter : did you have to do it finally ?

The 10B200 is 8ohms, two of them in parallel is 4ohms

Maybe @FonkBass can provide a picture.
Just make sure to add some lining to the interior of the cabinet to absorb reflections of mid-frequencies.

Maybe @FonkBass can answer this.
It's possible that the inductor is still there physically but is not connected in any way, or just bypassed by a wire.

Hi Flowc, i have changed my email address so was not receiving messages!

I have since sold that cab, but i got a lot out of it! It was an interesting project and a learned a lot of info from Arjank!
I've just finished building a Bill Fitzmaurice Simplexx 2x12 which is a beast of a cab drool

But if you are modifying the Harley 210 all the info is in this thread..i really liked the mids i got with that cab..

You can find some photos in post #5 and post #28 - "add lining around the transition between port and cab"
When you have removed the drivers and are looking into the cab you can see the holes of the ports...that where you would cover with the lining!
