True but I don't believe you get what you pay for with most piezo pickups the materials cost pennies, it's all in the shielding,preamp/buffer and location location location you place it on the bass !

Well, every cheap DB string ive tried has sounded awful, felt awful and had a special coating of rust as standard on them, so Im not too hopeful.
Though in many cases theres not a lot to strings. You pay for build quality, ie accurate and secure wrapping, rather than raw materials.
Unless you want to go for eudoxas or something which are made from virgin lambs wrapped in melted down roman jewellery dusted in baby seal powder.

I took the bait & tried em. They're ok for pizz but absolutely Awful for arco..no grip whatsoever

The materials used for making strings don't cost a lot either(in most cases), but someone has to design, market, hire employees, buy equipment etc. You get what you pay for.

I'm not being facetious. The technology and the equipment required to mass produce a top grade string are significant and costly. It's a competitive world. If strings could be cheaper, they would be. $24? Ridiculous.
