Well guys this has all gone to waste... As of Friday August 27. My dano '63 is now broken... the bridge has literally ripped its self from the bass and the screws are now stripped. I am thinking this is probably my doing as I went at it with a screwdriver for a good few hours. Well time to go craigslist and look for a new bass.
It's not April 1st so that 2nd pic is not going to work or.....
Seek professional help asap.

My condolences. That being said, a new bridge and strings are the solution. Take it to a tech though.

That's fair, I wasn't trying to be mean. Just a comedy of errors. I wish the OP the best of luck in getting his bass repaired.
I do have to admit I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw the pic of those Boomers wrapped around the tuner posts.
Sorry to hear this! It's not all lost - probably the wood just needs to be filled and bridge refitted. A new bridge and better tuners (the kind with the slot at the top instead of the guitar-style hole through the peg) would be a good upgrade to this bass, if it's worth it that is. Take it to a luthier for sure though. If you can let us know where you're located, someone might have a recommendation.
I had success in cutting strings intended for longer scale. Only metal string. Tapes specially D'addario will unravel, but I have arrested the unravelling by being quick on the lighter and melt the ends.
To be on the safe side, I tin the cut ends with non lead solder. However if they are La Bella, it is not a question of will it break but when. They always need to be wrapped on the silks I love La Bella Strings

them do the job with proper strings and watch them do it
