I got a gig coming up that I need to learn a couple Marcus Miller basslines- I’m looking forward to it. He’s a freaking legend. He has his own distinct voice on the instrument which something not that many bass players can say.

The thing I really love about his playstyle. He said in an interview as a teen him and his friend said they both can keep playing like the greats, but you got to make your own style! He really inspires all musicians!

Saw him probably 5-6 years ago and was floored by how great he (and his band) was. Then got to chat with him for a few minutes after the gig (not a VIP thing, he just happened to be walking by) and he was friendly and genuine to chat with - seemed like a very down-to-earth dude. He's an icon for sure....

Speaking as someone who turned 69 yesterday, I agree. Poor Marcus; if only he'd been born 1 day earlier he could have shared a birthday with me. His loss.

I've been listening to a lot of his stuff lately as I started to play bass in the new year. I hope he comes to the UK at some point soon. I really want to see him live.
