Hello all.

I've read various threads and im still a little bit confused so I hope someone can spell it out nice and simply for me.

If a head is 300 watts and the two options of cabs I have are two 4x8 cabs one is 400 watts @ 8 ohms and the other 600 watts @ 8 ohms.

Could I use either of these with the 300 watt head? Would I get use of the full 300 watts when paired with one of these cabs?

Thanks.

Your head is most likely outputting 300 watts at 4 ohms. You definitely can use either of those cabs independently, but you won't get the full power of your amp. It will most likely be around 150-180 watts into one of those 8 ohm cabs. If you plug both of your cabs in, for a total 4 ohm load, then you'll get the full 300 watts pumping out of your cones.

Thank you Ed.

There is also a 600 watt head I am looking at. So would it be safe to hook that up to the 600 watt cab and would I then get around half that wattage from the head? Thanks.

Saying you have a "300-Watt head" or a "600-Watt head" is not much help - to properly answer your questions we need to know if it supplies 300W (or 600W) into a 4 ohm load...which two amps are we talking about here...?

You probably have 2 4x10 cabinets. Each 8ohms.

Right?

Regardless of brand plugging both into either of your heads becomes a 4ohm load.

Your weakest cabinet is 400 watts. Your best 600.

You will never push enough into either to hurt them. Unless you distort the crap outa them.

Plug them together and have a blast.

if both are to much for the situation your in...pick one.

Have a blast.

The manual states it is a minimum 4 ohm load: Invalid Link Removed

If you plug in both your 8 ohm cabs to the WA300, you will get the full output of 300W (shared between the cabs). The same applies to using both cabs with the WA600, so 600W shared between the cabs.

If you only use one of the 8 ohm cabs, you will only get around 150-180W from the WA300 as posted earlier by Ed Schaefer or around 250-300W from the more powerful WA600.

Yes, you should be able to safely use either (or both) with the 300 amp. You always need to listen, though. Always.

The 400 RMS 8-ohm cab could be problematic with the 600 amp, though. The 600 amp may generate 400 RMS @ 8-ohms. If so, or even if it's less, it could easily fry the 400 RMS box if you crank the amp & don't pay strict attention to the cab. If you're observant, though, you should still be fine.
