Headphone or line level switching device?

Hi -

I need to take 2 line level signals R+L and be able to switch them

What I need is the ability to do this

Split - L on L, R on R
Monitor L - hear L channel in both ears, no R
Monitor R - hear R channel in both ears, no L

either in front of a headphone amplifier, or using a headphone amplifier itself. I've looked at various devices available in the pro DJ world and the Sweetwater catalog and am a little stumped how to do this. Any suggestions?

A small mixing board will work for this, as long as you can adjust channel levels and the inputs have a PAN control.

Can you be more specific about your use case? That will get you more meaningful answers.

If it's monitoring off of a DAW then you don't even need any hardware to do this. Just hard pan the 2buss left or right as needed using a standard software panner built into the DAW, which is actually an independent left-right level control in most cases, then fold the 2buss to mono. Just like that you'll have all of the left, or all of the right information in both ears without any of the opposite.

A small mixer will do it fine. Plug Left into channel 1, Right into channel 2, (set to mono). Use the level knobs to adjust how much you hear of each side.

Yeah, many DAWs can do this easy in software.

And you always want to mix down to mono as a final mix check. You never know when somebody will set their cell phone to mono, or play through a single Bluetooth speaker. There can be a lot of surprises if you don't test it first.
