Headphones

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but its near enough.

Im looking for a good pair of headphones, to be used during practice. At the moment i'm just using some in - ear ones, which obviously isnt very wise at all (there distorting allready)

Im looking for a good, cheap (around £40 downwards) and a pair of good headphones that sound great and can handle bass. Any recomendations?

I use Sennheiser HD280's. They are around $100 (probably a little more than your budget), but sound wonderful. I practice with them every night in my apartment; they have saved me from being evicted.

Check AKG K66.

Sony MDR-7506 are a good bet, but I'm not sure the coiled cord is worth the hassle, always getting tangled.

I love my Sony 7506's - best buy ever. I have no problems with the cord.

if yo urecomend anything could u also give the price you got them for aswell? Even if there off ebay. or in dolalrs whatever

I think the MDR7506 run about $100. I would be wary of phones under about $50 dollars, most of those are consumer-grade and they tend to be really bass heavy and not very accurate. I have a pair of AKG K66 and they sound good, but not flat by any means. You want phones that don't have any frequency boost so you can hear exactly what you've recorded.

Grado SR60 (~$80)

I have a pair of these as well as Sennheiser HD580's which are highly regarded and a good bit more expensive. IMO, the Grado's sound better (especially for bass). The Senn's are nice (very comfy) and do sound great, but they are almost too bassy, making it hard to hear certain aspects of your technique. The Grado's are crystal clear and you can hear everything you do-- the good, the bad, and the ugly!!

My favorite pair of headphones is the "Extreme Isolation Headphones" $90. They are basically protective ear muffs with headphone elements.
I like that it cuts down the ambient sound I hear, so I can hear what my basses sound like through the processing and very little acoustic feedthrough. A big deal especially when slapping. It's important to practise with a sound that your audience will hear.
Because the earphones are isolated you don't have to turn them up very much.
So far, I haven't liked the electronically isolated headphones, they sound funny to me.

hands down if you want be able to only hear the headphones get the sennhieser hd280's. if you want more detail and want to be able to hear what is going on around you, get the grado 60's

you should be able to get both for around 80 dollars
