Alright, the college just informed me that I need headphones. So, I was wondering what headphones you guys would recommend. They are probably going to be used mostly for recording and that sort of monitoring type stuff.

I have a pair of Shure E2s that I use for live monitoring, but I don't think they'd be all that good for recording monitoring and such.

Headphones are good for tracking, but typically not ideal for monitoring your mixes. However, since I do a lot of mixing late at night when my kids are asleep, I end up mixing with headphones. Sometimes I get decent results, but often I end up needing to re-adjust levels after hearing the song on other speakers (car, stereo, etc.)

Just to clarify, I'm at music college, so the headphones need to be of a fairly good quality. Not the best, but not low end either. Fair, decent, middle ground.

Compared to basses; Doesn't need to be a Squire on one end. It doesn't have to be a Sadowsky or Benavente on the other end. A CIJ Geddy Lee will do fine. :D

Get the HD 280's if you need isolation which they are great at and sound very good or the AKG 240 which are more comfortable.

I haven't used them but I have heard great things about the Beyerdynamic DT-770.

AKG's K171 Studio supra-aural closed headphones (about $150.00). These or the K271 Studio circumaural closed back headphones (about $199.00). These are very good headphones for the studio. They have good frequency range with very little coloration. They don't need a headphone amp. I have owned a pair of K171's for the past 4years and, I use them everyday 3-5 hours per day. I don't treat them very gently either. They've been dropped, kicked (accidentally), pulled by the cable, and I've run over the headphone cable with chair more times thank I can count an the still work perfectly. Either one of these should last your entire time in school and beyond. :)

And another thing, I noticed Sennheiser has wireless headphones. Anybody have anything to say about those? Good? Bad? I like the idea of them being wireless, but how it the sound?
