Heads that rival a Rack system?

I'm looking to scale down & simpilfy my rig.

Currently use an Eden Navigator & Crown power amp (1,000w @ 8 Ohms)

I LOVE the sound & depth of this system. :bassist:

Only problem, it's getting to be a bear to lug around. :bawl:

Any new heads that you guys are using that can match the features & power of this kind of system?

I'm thinking something "hifi", yet warm sounding like an Eden WT800 or EA iamp800.

Don't know much about some of the other pro brands... Thunderfunk, Epifani, etc.

i was really impressed with the sound of the markbass heads.

they weigh nothing, they are rack mountable, and they weigh nothing!

GK heads are pretty light too. eden has a few smaller amps too... if youre happy with the sound you allready have but not the weight, maybe check out some of the WT550 heads or even that WTX260.

If you do the WT800 you'll retain the Eden tone. Then, just get a simple 2-space rack case. Or, if you got some skills, build yourself a head from some plywood and vinyl covering! Replicate an Ampeg SVT-CL's body, and then bolt in the WT800. Heck, you could even build it slightly taller, and mount some cooling fans underneath to help circulate air.

Since you listed the 8 ohm (I assume bridged) output of your power amp, I assume you are primarily using a single, large 8ohm cab (your GIII?). Is that correct?

If so, the monoblock all in one heads like the Thunderfunk, etc. won't help you much, since their 8 ohm output is quite low (4ohms is a different story). If my assumptions are correct about the single 8ohm cab, you might want to check out an EdenWT800c. That amp puts out about 900 watts or so bridged into 8ohms and has a similar tone and front end as your Navigator (not quite all the bells and whistles, but close).

You would be down to two rack spaces and around 30 pounds, with about the same power.

WALTER WOODS is 7 POUNDS AND CAN PAIR DOWN TO 4OHMS and there's a BLUE LIGHT ULTRA DOWN BY THE BAY..... FOR ABOUT $2400. SEARCH WALTER WOODS BASS AMP

I do like to add a second cab for big shows -- so I'd have to have a 4 Ohm Bridge option.

It's been a long time since I've been head shoppin' and the pickins are slim 'round here.

I tried several of the higher wattage Ampegs at GC, but didn't care for them. I never really spent much time with a MarkBass other than that 1x12 combo.

Man -- that PUMA is UGLY! It LOOKS loud!
