Double Bass Headway "The Band" pickup

Anyone tried one of these? I heard raves from violinists and now a bass version is available. Gave it a try last evening and was really disappointed. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I had heard from a distributor that this would eventually be available. The EDB-1 is certainly a excellent
pre amp. I haven't seen anyone using one here in St. Louis. It's not even listed on the Headway website yet.
So, it appears that you're working with a very new product.

Yes I suspect it is pretty new. The one I have was loaned to me by a local distributor who is pretty excited about the product. He may be disappointed in my response.

What, if any, preamp are you using it with?

Tried it thru a K&K and on its own (Headway claims a preamp is not necessary). I wasn't happy either way.

I was about to pull the trigger for one of these. What, specifically didn't you like about it, when used through the Headway pre?

Oops. I misread your post. Headway (England and their distributor here) told me that they strongly recommend the use of their preamp.
