The 384XXX serial number, finish, and pickguard suggest the body is late ‘72-early 73…any numbers on the original pickup that you could post a pic of? Or an “under the hood” pic of the numbers on the volume and tone pots?

The neck pocket has ‘77 stamped in it so I’m assuming that’s the body.

Looks like Alder. I don’t really have scale to weigh it on though. I want to guess 9-10lbs.

Fender didn't stamp dates into neck pockets and the pickup is dated 1972, so I think this is a 1972 body. The location of the bridge (closer to the edge of the body) also dates it to 1970-1973. Further confirmation is the tort pickguard with finger rest below the G string, assuming that the pickguard is original.

1972 was a good year for P-Basses in my opinion. I'll bet that original pickup sounds great.

I always like the sound of the P. pick up but never the J. That’s why I changed them out to a set of the Lindy Fraillan pickups.

So it looks like I have an early 70s body heavily modded.

And yes, it’s the original pick guard that I bought the bass with. So I’ll just assume it’s original too, but no promises.

Any interest in parting it out? I am sure you'd have plenty of luck moving the body; I am particularly interested in that neck you never bonded with. Totally understand if you'd prefer to keep it together, but certainly let me know if you'd consider splitting it up...
