Heck, the bridge is worth half the purchase price!

I was rather tempted by some earlier DBZ closeouts (or whatever) months ago, but that model doesn't do it for me. Not sure what's going on with the company, but obviously something is.

I knew what the link lead to before even clicking it! I've had a tingle for that (the five string) since they hit eBay but my budget doesn't allow it.

They originally retailed for about $800. That is one sexy beast. I'm guessing the weight isn't as much as one would think because the body is relatively thin.

Boing.

I'm not really in love with the looks but at that price it's a chance to try something different.
True. The body is kind of T-40-ish, but that headstock just doesn't seem to go with it.

Does anyone know what the story is with the company?

Dean Zelinsky split from DBZ. DBZ has become Diamond guitars and Dean has his own new company with a new bass:

Diamond Guitars (looks like the imperial is discontinued):
Diamond Guitars - Electric, Acoustic, and Bass Guitars for Musicians

I've never played a DBZ but I have read some good things. I would guess these are well worth the asking price. You only lose return shipping costs if you get a bad one.

Thanks for the explanation, guess he's known to feel like movin' on. I've certainly liked a lot of his stuff (and not so much some as well) before I even realized there was a connection back to Dean. Some early Deans (I'm guessing while it was still his) are fairly (bleep)ing awesome.

I was really very tempted by the DBZ Hailfire bass, kind of a tbird-ish with a cutaway look - I was hoping I'd see one during this blowout, but so far, just the guitars, and pickins are gettin' slim.
