hello and pickup questions

Hello from Texas,

I've been playing bass for about 40 years now. I have an old Fender, a MM Sterling and a cheap 3/4 acoustic.

I'm pretty old school - Sun, Stax/Volt, Motown, Jamerson, Chuck Rainey, McCartney, Duck Dunn are big influences. When I play this syle, I play the old Fender.

But I also admire Marcus Miller, Will Lee and I play the occasional funk/fusion gig, and for these gigs I use the Sterling. I love the way the Sterling feels and plays, but I'm getting tired of the "active" sound, there's way too much brittle high-end for my taste, even with the tone controls in deep cut mode.

So my first question to this forum is - if there's a good passive pickup that will fit the Sterling without additional routing or cutting. I'd like remove the existing PU and circuit board, battery, etc. and replace it all with a single PU, volume and tone control pots, and capaicitor. That's all.

I'm told the existing MM Sterling PU is very low impedance, and will not drive a high impedance input like a Fender Bassman or other standard bass amp.

So, I'm looking for a single PU that will fit in the Sterling PU cavity and work without the internal preamp.

Any suggestions?

Artie
