Hello from Rhode Island!

Hi all,
Been lurking on here for a bit now...decided it's about time I say what up!

Little background on myself; I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years now, but only ever as a hobbyist. Never played out, and only had a few very short stints in a couple bands playing guitar. I feel for someone who has been playing for as long as I have, I should be a lot better than I am...but then again, there were also long periods of time where my guitars would just gather dust for months at a time.

About 4 years ago I picked up an acoustic Dean bass...and I absolutely LOVED it! For as long as I remember bass lines have always stood out for me whenever I was listening to anything. Only took about 15 years to figure out I was a bass player stuck in a guitarists' body! I now have an Ibanez SR 250 (need to upgrade very soon!) and just got a Fender Rumble 500 combo (besides extension cab, likely will never need to upgrade that!).

Now I've been playing in an originals band for about the past year; we play covers here and there. It's great! Great guys, great music, great fun! Had a live performance at the drummer's Labor Day party where we opened for a much better band!

Anyway, I love playing bass! And I love this place!

Hey another TB'er from RI. Welcome! I play for fun these days and not much time to consider being in a band. I am planning to try some open mic nights if I can find a few people who want to play the same songs.

Have fun!

Thanks guys!

Ryan, my bandmates and I checked out Copperfields in Smithfield not to play, but just to see how the vibe was. Pretty low key...just an acoustic guitar and what I think may have been the tiniest drum kit in the entire state! I suppose one could plug a bass directly into the PA. I suspect we might be a bit loud for that crowd! I haven't found many places that do full band open mics...definitely let me know if you find any good ones.

I'm going to check Copperfields tonight (2/1) -- open mic and they are doing a raffle event fundraiser.
Sports Legends at 2121 West Shore Rd Warwick has open mic(Fri/Sat?) and seems big enough for full bands.
Harmony Cafe in Manville, I just found this one googling for another one.
Lou's Cafe in Manville, went to see open mic last summer..they have a real drum set!
Greenwich Hotel in EG, was there two years ago and it's packed on a Sat night.

At Lou's, Dave the open mic organizer told me to bring a bass and I could sit in on a couple songs. There is a house band but they play mostly 60's and early 70's classic rock, I don't know that era too well. I'm pretty sure you can use their drums and plug into their amps etc, they're pretty friendly. I have Dave's cell # if you want more info.

EDIT: I assume you know about openmikes.org site, but just in case:

I've actually seen this ad before. Never been to Bailey's...I don't live too far from there (Johnston). Will have to check it out sometime soon...let me know if you go sometime.

Hey @PhinDude, sorry I lost track of this thread. Check out Strings Bar in Johnston...good time last night with the open jam. It's on George Waterman Ave.

I played a few songs with the house band and really enjoyed it. Excellent musicians running it.

Hey @Ryan6491,
Love Strings! I'm there all the time...I might go tomorrow (Wednesday) to check out some open mic and watch Game 1. Haven't played there yet but hoping to sometime soon. My wife's cousin works there and the owners are family friends of theirs. I'm in a new band, and hope she can get us a gig there sometime after the holidays.

Check us out! We're called "The Mercy Brown Band"...we play mostly classic rock covers and originals:
