1. Hi, I am a new member, and a new bass player. I started studying electric ten months ago and upright one month ago.

I call them my mid-life crisis fun toys, and they are my favorite things to do in the world.
I never thought tiny little me could ever play bass, but am discovering that I was wrong.
I tried both years ago, but it never felt right. Last summer I had the pleasure of taking a guitar teaching methods class, and got another chance at playing an electric bass.
This time, it felt good, and I could do it, so to store I went as soon as possible.

For a living, I teach music in a public school to every grade and sing in an opera chorus.
As a child, I studied violin through out elementary and high school, but never really played in tune to my satisfaction, so a voice major I became.
I play piano and guitar for my work everyday, but they are just not a bass!

I am here because I can use all the good help I can get! I have a lot of years to make up for! This looks like a good site.

Welcome to talkbass! I too live somewhere in the backwoods of Pa. It's great to hear that you decided to pick up bass a little later in life. I have been playing most of my adult life and I can tell you that you are in for a great time if you keep at it. Good luck with it!

Welcome aboard! I've been on an off about playing instruments all my life. My father used to play guitar professionally, and I always wanted to be like him. But, guitar wasn't for me (at least not with my dad as my teacher).

My first instrument was drums. I loved it, but my dad didn't want me growing up to be a drummer for some reason. I tried guitar (several times) and keyboard, and finally settled on Bass (the perfect blend of drums, my first love, and guitar in my mind anyway). I stopped playing for a couple of years, and picked it up seriously when I was 29.

I asked a bass player I had befriended on line if I was now too old to be playing. He said: "Is your goal to be in a boy band?" I said no, and he replied "Then you're not too old".

Have fun with it, and again welcome aboard.
