Hi I have a Ampeg SVT 450 head and a Ampeg 410 Classic Cab 8 ohm I want to pair it with a Hartke 215 bass cab will this work without a problem
Right now it is buried in the back of our equipment truck when I find it what is the acceptable ohms on the Hartke cabinet to pair with my AmpegWelcome to TalkBass!!!
What's the ohm rating on the Hartke cab?
No I want to pair the Hartke cab with an Ampeg 410 classic bass cabinet 8 ohmsHartke 215XL : 4 ohms
Ampeg 810 : 8 ohms
Total speaker load : 2.67 ohms
Minimum load for Ampeg SVT 450 : 4 ohms
No, don't do this.
More to the point, why do you need to be so deafening? Either speaker on its own is more than enough.
You have a 4 ohm minimum on your head. If one is 8 ohms and the other is 4, that's 2.67 ohms, so no go. If both are 4 ohms, that's 2 ohms total and also a no go. If both are 8, then you're OK because that's 4 ohms.Right now it is buried in the back of our equipment truck when I find it what is the acceptable ohms on the Hartke cabinet to pair with my Ampeg

Like Jimmy said, 8 ohms would work. The math is sort of backwards. Two 8 ohm cabs combine for a 4 ohm load. And to FEW ohms is a problem moreso than too many. If the Hartke is a 4 ohm cab you will damage your amp running them both at 2.67 ohms.
The math is sort of backwards.
As a Physicist, I take issue with this. The math is not "sort of" backwards. The math is precisely backwards. ;-)
Easiest way to deal with it is to take the inverse of each impedance - in doing that, an 8 Ohm cabinet becomes a .125 mho cabinet, a 4 Ohm cabinet becomes a .25 mho cabinet. You then add these inverses (aka conductances) - .125 mhos plus .25 mhos equals .375 mhos total conductance. You then invert that, and get.....2.66666666 (the 6 repeating ad nasueum) or about 2.67 Ohms as the total load.
(a mho is the unit of conductance (now called a Siemens, but for our purposes the mho is simpler to understand))
That's what I said! Only in English!![]()
Mathematics and Physics are the language of the universe. While you may do better in Earthly pursuits, when the aliens come, I'm better prepared.
So you have a bunch of math stored in a bunker?
I thought all alien tech blows our "laws" of physics out of the water. I gotta go watch more YouTube.![]()
No bunker. Yes, alien tech (They will have traveled halfway across the Galaxy) will dwarf what an Earth guy with an iphone can do. When the aliens arrive, they'll obviously be hungry, and ultimately eat us all, but for a time, they'll keep some of us around to encourage the others into the soylent...resort, yeah that's it...it's a resort. Those of us that understand Math and Physics will be able to communicate better with them than most, so we'll likely be the last ones to be "dinner guests".
Then again, maybe we're alone. Which would be a huge waste of space. One of the sad things about the universe is that, in the vast majority of places, as there is no air, playing bass guitar will be a fruitless pursuit. No quantity of 10 inch drivers or vacuum tubes can overcome the vacuum of space.
It's possible I have derailed a perfectly good impedance thread. You're welcome.
It's kinda what we do.
