Hello...

I'm Kerry from Louisville, KY. I've played (some people may not call it that!) guitar in the past, but, haven't picked one up in a few years. Been thinking about picking up the bass and finally decided to do something about it. I really wanted to play the drums when I was a kid, but, we already had a piano, so I got piano lessons. Just wanting to pick up a bass and amp and start messing around. I'm 55 and closing in on choosing a retirement day, but I don't harbor any fantasies that I'm going to get in a band and hit the road.

I started looking for what bass might be best for an aging noob and stumbled across this forum. Was blown away by the crazy amount of info there is here. I look forward to meeting and chatting woth folks on here, and, am open to any info anyone is willing to share with me.

I will say that I'm leaning towards the Yamaha TRBX line, or maybe the Schecter Stiletto.

I really have no clue when it comes to amps.

I did go to Guitar Center and tried a few. Mostly Squier models. I don't think they had anything with Active pups. There aren't a ton of options here in Louisville, a few.

How big should I go on amp? My thought is I'd rather not have a little practice amp. I may not be good, but, I want SOUND. I'm older (55) and live in a house by myself, and I work nights, so, I can crank it as loud as I want in the afternoons. :)

What's your price range? Are there any bass players that you like the sound of? Regarding the amp power, it will depend on how loud the band is.. What kind of music are you in to?

All kinds, classic rock, funk, some country, jazz. This is just going to be me playing for the fun of it, no plans to play out, at least for now.

Add far as price, I'm the kind of person that would rather pay a bit more now and get something I could "grow" in to, then get a "starter" bass that is want happy with. When I buy tools I buy quality. I've looked at the Yamaha TRBX 500/600 and the Schecter Stiletto 4 session, $600-$800 range. But, I'm open to suggestions.
