Hello everyone,

I am 35, I have been playing bass for a while but don't have a crazy level, I would say I am getting close to intermediate. I play mostly rock music and am in a Foo Fighters tribute band but we are not active right now.

I know nothing about gear so I will have some questions for you. I have a Mexican Fender Precision that I love, and 2x Ampeg Portaflex 410 with a Mesa Subway D-800+, But I want to change the Ampegs for Mesa cabinets soon.

I would like to have only one cabinet instead of 2 if possible, and at the same time I would like a Mesa cabinet to match the D800+ amp and they are also lighter. The 410 from Mesa is also more powerful than one of the Ampegs, so maybe one will be enough? What do you think? Thanks!

sure that makes sense..I like matching gear too. there subway line is what I think your talking about. I'm not a Mesa person but I've seen a 2-15 that would be perfect for that D800

I was thinking more of the 4x10 but I did see a lot of people that liked the 2x15 so part of me wanted to maybe do the 1x15 and 2x10 stacked to have a mix of both.. But I am leaning more towards the 4x10 to have just one cabinet to carry around.

Welcome! There's a Subway thread around here that has paged and pages of reading for you to enjoy.

I really suggest you take a look at that 215. It has a handle and wheels for transport. I own the 115 and it is simply amazing. The conventional wisdom regarding 15" speaker being more boomy and 10" speakers being brighter or more punchy simply isn't true. It's all about cabinet tuning. And, trust me, the Mesa 15s don't lack any clarity at all.

That said, there are plenty of fans of that 410 as well. You really can't go wrong.

You would go 215 (or 2x 115) over 410 for a band that plays loud rock (Foo Fighters mostly)? I am looking more and more at 2x 115 (for portability).
