HELP! advice on buying a new bass!

Hello everybody, I need help before i beat a hole in the wall with my head.
I am relatively a new bass player in search of a new bass (my first bass) i am going to play a lot of slap (because i enjoy it) or metal bass (for my band). so far I have come to a conclusion that I think I would need a humbucker bass. I would like a nice, long, heavy bass. I don't usually dig a really light weight bass. but i will be willing to bend on this if i have to. I would like to stay within a prcie range of 300 dollars at most, maybe a little bit over. any advice?
ps. I would also need an amp too. ive looked at the fender rumble 60 so far.
please help!!!!!!!

My vote's for Ibanez. They're light, but are a great value in that price range. Plus the guys in your band should be happy, since a lot of metal guys play Ibanez. I learned to slap on mine (they're a real breeze to slap on) and they're very comfortable basses to play. My personal Ibanez is an SR600.

Another to consider is the Squier Vintage Modified line. I would prefer an Ibanez, but you can get a Squier VM Jazz for just under your price point, and they're also great bass as well for the level.
