Help! Beginner soudman !

Play a few well recorded tracks through the system. Listen for what there is too much of (frequency wise) and EQ it out with the graphic (usually it's 80Hz, something between 160 and 250, something between 315 and 800, and something between 3k and 8K). Don't cut multiple bands to "make a smooth" cut - one band is too wide as it is. Pull down only the one that does the most good.

Listen for what there is too much of (frequency wise) in each voice and instrument. Use the channel EQ to fix it.

It's not about equal volume, it's about a proper blend - some things are meant to be in the background.

I don't agree with the way they do things there.

Requiring me to share personal information with complete strangers? No thanks. No other website I've ever joined has ever required me to make my real name visible to other members. They even gave me a "warning" for posting without going into my user settings and changing my display name to my real name (which is stupid, if you're going to make it a requirement, make it impossible to register without providing that info).

It's not really telling other people my name that bugs me, what bugs me is the whole "you are required to make your personal information visible to all members on this site in order to post". That's just wrong.

i'm with cycler, that's one of the best things about PSW!

it makes for a great bulls**t filter, elevating the level of the info to be had there, and making the place more "pro" in terms of who posts there.

it's kinda why i post my full name and who i am, to sort of "check" myself from becoming another anonymous internet flame-starting d-bag (which is just too easy!) and be more careful about what i say.

besides, the OP should go over there and search, not post anyway. the "study hall" and the "lounge" are good places to start.

If it were simply encouraged and not an absolute rule, I'd have no problem with it.

I'm always myself on forums. I have trouble trying to be anyone else. Whether I use my real name or an alias, I act the same way.

That forum requires you to use your real name to post. I wasn't comfortable with that.

They didn't always, but user abuse necessitated it. The only personal info they require is an actual name (you could probably use a nom de plume as long as it looks like a "real" person, but you didn't hear that from me!), and they strongly encourage posting your geographical area (helps you connect with others who might be able to advise in person, among other things). I've belonged to their various incarnations since the '90s and have NEVER had any evidence of them misusing my info. Meanwhile, if you don't join you can still learn volumes by reading as a guest. Also check out their locked archived stuff (from their previous host up until a few months ago). Many years' worth of good stuff by people who have already dealt with anything you're likely to encounter.
