OK, I'm not Gary...but...we just built a bass as a custom order with two extra layers of poplar in the ribs and over-sized blocks all around (the top and back plates stayed the same as our regular builds). This owner has been very clear about the fact that he WILL be standing on it. I have not heard it yet...it will start varnish this week...but it is not much heavier so far so I assume it will sound just fine.Come to think of it, Gary or Arnold would be fun to hear from too, but it might be tough for them to get behind this idea.
