Looking for a light weight P bass with a thin Jazz neck. Love the P bass sound but due to arthritis need a thin neck and light weight body. Does Fender make a bass like this or am I SOL?
The deluxe active p special has a jazz neck. It's actually a PJ not a P, but that's not a bad thing. If you want a straight up passive p, you could always buy one of each, swap necks, and sell the j with p neck here together as a bass or the neck and body separately.
I had Dave Certain build me one just like that. P body with a great Jazz neck and a varitone, awesome bass!
Dan Lakin does them - You can specify the BG signature bass with either the P or J neck. The sound of these basses is stellar, too. http://www.frequency.com/video/dan-lakin-for-d-lakin-basses/173444642 http://dlakinbasses.com/basses/available/bgc007-candy-apple-red-1-50-nut-width-1350/
Do you think the jazz neck would affect the p-bass's overall tone? Also, what's the difference between precision american standard and precision deluxe american tuners/hardware? (I liked that customized link provided above.)
Used Fender Jazz Bass Special (PJ, 1980s, passive, V-V-T, MIJ) Used passive Precision Bass Special (PJ, late 1990s-2004, passive, V-V-T, MIM). Both basses were originally released passive, and later versions included pre-amp/active EQ. Some American Fenders in the 1970s came with Jazz width neck. There was also a more recent Precision Bass Special (PJ, maple fretboard with block inlays, available passive or active, MIM, FSR).
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I already have a bass that fits the bill. I bought a late 80's Ibanez Roadstar II off ebay a few years ago. It was shipped totally dismantled. I didn't put it together until last year and I found it had a broken truss rod. I finally replaced the broken truss rod a few months ago and thought it had a ski jump. Turns out after letting it sit for a few months the neck is fine. It's beat up but it plays and sounds just fine, just needs new knobs and height adjustment screws.
