Help for a newb

I recently dove into playing bass. Ive been using my friends 5 string Fender P Deluxe. It sounds great (like a Fender). The thing is I really hate having a 5 string. The fret board is too wide for my girly drumming hands :scowl: So I plan on buying myself a bass. I would like some advice as to what to buy. Heres what I'm looking at.

Carvin Icon: They look great! Good Price. The bass player in a favorite band of mine "Floater" plays an LB70. Always sounds good.

Warick Corvette: Seem to be popular. Thats about all I know.

Fender: I could just get a 4 String version, but seems silly since I already have access to one already in a 5.

Any other suggestions? Looking to spend about $1500. Thanks!

I probably have smaller hands than you, and I can play a five string without much difficulty. Mind you, I don't have own one because five strings disorient me.

And, besides, the B string is at the very top of the fretboard. You can still access the other four strings like you would a normal four string bass.

If you have $1.5k to spend, buy a StingRay.

Hand size is not really an issue. it's getting your hands to stretch. It takes time and concentrated effort.

But if you want a four stringer, I'd suggest you look at the new Fender American standard P-bass or Jazz bass. The Jazz is different enough from the P that it wouldn't be redundant.

The corvettes are nice, but if your digging the P-bass tone they are a very different beast. Stingray (as above) or Sterlings (Both Ernie Ball MusicMan) are worth checking out too.

There's no reason whatsoever you should have a goal of spending $1500, especially if you're brand new to playing. There are hundreds of gigging bassists out there who have been playing for years and don't have instruments that cost that much.
