Help getting Phoenix's Entertainment bass tone

Here it is, for reference:

I'm talking about the bass tone in the verse (from 0:33). Been tinkering with the HX Stomp for days and I'm finally coming to the conclusion that I need help.

So far, I've been following what I found here (), but from there I tried using actual octavers, swapped the fuzz for other overdrives/distortions, tinkered with the filters (all in the Stomp)... Nothing gets even close to that triangle (or perhaps square?) wave sound on top of the clean signal... And, yes, I know it will be an approximation, but if I could at least get in the ballpark, I think I (or should I say my employer in this gig?) would be happy.

FWIW, I can also add some pedals before or after the Stomp (SP Compressor, the EBS filter, MXR Vintage Octave, a couple overdrives...)

EDIT: fix broken link

I would use an analog octave down one and some dirt, preferably fuzz.

Sub octave split 50/50 clean and into a fuzz into LPF. The key is dialing in the LPF to get the square wave effect from the fuzz. Maybe a touch of chorus on that path as well. The overlord setting on the mk3.33 Octabvre does exactly this sound on its own.

I tried the split after the octave, as you suggested, and it really helped. Thanks! However, the LPF'ed fuzz is still ver far from the square/triangle wave. I tried both the autofilter I was using before (but it's more of an envelope thing, though it's actually useful to reproduce the attack of the Phoenix example) and I also tried using the actual HPF/LPF and the HP/LP shelves in the Stomp. Neither did it for me. Any suggestion on what I should do about it?

That album has amazing production. IIRC they had bought and used the recording console from MJ’s Thriller to record Bankrupt.
Yes, I remember reading something about it too. I always wondered if the record got its name from the amount of money they spent on that console haha... That said, I think their previous album sounds better. I love those "frying" synths on Girlfriend or Love Like a Sunset, wheres Bankrupt's mix often sounds a little convoluted to me.

So, in case anyone is still reading, I think I need some more help. After my last post linking to that YouTube short, I went to actually try to implement it. I have the clean bass signal and a second path with the Boctaver into the Attack Synth and some other stuff. All in all, I want to have a square wave sound on top of my clean signal, BUT I need the synth sound to be short. Ideally, in a long note, the note in the clean signal will keep ringing while the synth-y sound will stop after, say, 200ms. I tried using a gate just on the synth signal, but it's not really working. Filters seem to work more on the start of the note, but not the end, I guess? Any ideas of what I can do?

Maybe the auto swell block by messing with the attack and decay settings.
