Help identifying Tobias...

That's a korean made tobias toby pro 5, figured maple wings, 5 piece wenge and maple neck, tobias brand pickups and 2 band preamp. I have the bubinga version, and they are nice basses, very nice necks. I don't get along with mine soundwise though, simply because i'm after musicman sort of growl. That sounds very polite, like a trebly p bass maybe, very smooth sounding.

Ah yeah, it's certainly not pre-gibson. Anything pre-gibson was made by mike's own hands, these are made in korea, you'd be nuts to sell a pre-gibson tobias for that. I'm not too familiar with the prices in america, but it seems fairly average for a bass like that.

The "Pre Gibson" part of the ad is a lie. People like to add that description to everything with the Tobias name on it to help it sell better.

Aint that the truth. I've heard people call Mike Tobias a liar for posting what he considers pre Gibson on his website. My personal faves were made by Gibson with Mike in Burbank. Most Mike Tobias made Tobias' are Gibson Tobias. Not a thing wrong with that.
