Help In Modifying An Epiphone LP Special...

Ok,so I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Special for $300 when I first started playing a few years back,I've kept it stashed away upon getting my Ernie Ball MusicMan - but now I dug it back out and want to do some mods on it.
I want to put a new bridge on it AND new pickups - the thing is I'm not sure what kind of bridge to go after or what type of pickups to go after...anyone have any thoughts?

It looks like it has a Hipshot A-style bridge, which are really nice bridges, what is it about the bridge you dislike?

For pickups, keeping the same size pickups it looks like your options would probably be along the lines of EMG or bartolini soapbars, though nordstrand also probably makes pickups that size, it really depends on what kind of sound you are looking to get out of it.

I'm an intermediate player,so alot of this stuff is new to me. Bridges and hardware are a whole new world - that's why i asked if anyone could give me some opinions on any brands or items they liked or feel would work for this bass. If you say the bridge is a very nice one, this one is broke, but I will simply just go and get a new one. As far as pickups I am wanting to put active pickups on the thing like my MM sterling - didn't know if it was possible or not - but that's what i'd like to do.

I've got one as well, and I love it. As for the bridge, it is very similiar to a hipshot A-style bridge, but its not the same, but you can use it as a direct replacement, as the screws go in the same place, I'm gonna do this myself. For pickups, I would go with EMGs, as they will fit the slots perfectly, I would go with passive soapbars, and I say passive because a bunch of bassists I talk to that use active EMGs lose thier bottom end.

How is the bridge broken? You seem new to hardware, so how do you know it's broken?

MM sterling has passive pickups. But it has an active preamp.
