Double Bass Help! Looking to buy my first upright

So I went to fantastic musical instruments in pasadena and was able to play the shen sb-150 they had there. It sounded and felt really good. What do I know though considering im looking for my first string bass. Im gonna keep saving and going to different places til I am ready to buy.
Anyone have anyother suggestions for my new price range of 2500-3000?

Eastman basses are really really good to, i think they're better than
shen but thats just my opinion. They seem like they're put together
better and have higher quality components. Lisa Gass at LA bass works
has a lot of them.

I would highly recommend buying a Thompson hybrid from String Emporium. I purchased one almost a year ago. It is awesome. I get a lot of compliments on my bass from many people in the bluegrass community in the Pacific Northwest. Plus, Steve at String Emporium is great to work with. He spent a great deal of time on the phone with me to help me with all my questions and concerns.

About two and a half years ago, I was in exactly the same position -- fifteen years or so in on the electric, and kind of bored with it. I got my first upright and now I barely touch the porkchop any more.
If I can make a suggestion (in addition to finding a teacher), be sure and learn to play with the bow in addition to playing with your hands. It will help your intonation, and it makes you more versatile as a player (which equals more gigs in the future?).
Also, let me recommend that you study from the Simandl book. It is designed to be a self-study course.

I was able to stop buy another bass shop today. You all might of heard of it, Stein on Vine it is called. Was able to try out a few basses. Getting a little better grasp of what I want. Gary Chen was very helpful, He had this 40year old Kay bass that sounded really good and tons of antique german basses.
