Help me choose between these two models

Hello,

I am intermediate player with a very limited budget and I am looking to buy a new guitar.

I can get either an Invalid Link Removed (used) or Invalid Link Removed (new) for the same price.

What is your previous experience with these guitars?

Which one would you personally pick up for a heavy/punchy sound?

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm i dont have experience with the SRX
only the SRs - they have a very modern sound that can be punchy -
very deep lows. To me it sounds great but it also does not sound very organic
it feels to me like a machine replicating a sound of a bass.
This is the SR and not the SRX mind you and to a lot of folks this sound and feel works for them. I have heard that the SRX is like the SR on steroids so who knows

I have had the Squier Precision Special and it was a pretty fun bass to play
the Agathis body was super light and the bass itself is easily modifiable if you choose to do so down the road
Heres me playing one
rather crappily

I would say, above all, try playing these if you can.

My very first bass was a Fender P and my second bass was an Ibanez SoundGear. These two basses, at least to me, play completely differently. They sit on your body differently and they have waaaay different necks.

When it comes to buying basses I firmly believe you must get the one that feels right in your hands. I know people who hate how thin Ibanez necks are and I know people who hate how thick Fender/Squier P necks are.

I wouldn't worry about sound at this point. Many things come into play including your style and your gear. It's better to get the one that feels right above anything else.

+1. Either of those basses will give you the punchy sound you want with the correct choice of strings and the right EQ settings. (Just about any bass will give you whatever sound you want with the right strings and EQ!) Those two basses have very different neck profiles. That's why it's important to spend some time with each of those basses and choose the bass that feels best when you play it.

These days I play nothing but my P bass, but that's me, not you. :)

I have to spend more time in the store I guess, but I kinda like the thin neck and the immediate sound of the SRX as well as the light weight and the look of the P Special.

I will definitely drop by the store and bug the sellers a little more with my lame skills. ;)
