Double Bass Help me choose the right preamp

Okay, I've got a plywood bass, an SWR Workingman's 12 and a Realist. The realist sounds great up to a certain volume then gets very honky. So I figured a preamp might solve the problem. I was looking at the Sansamp range, but the Acoustic DI that's been recommended has been discontinued, is the Para Driver any good for double bass and the realist?

para drive works great. it's the acoustic di with a drive knob added and a new name. also a great choice for the realist as it can get boomy at times is the fishman pro platinum with it's high pass filter.

I like the Fishman Platinum Pro as well. With the phase reversal switch and the high pass filter it really helps control feedback and that honky realist sound.

Upgrade to a Fishman Full Circle. I asked a similar question a while back hoping to get my Realist/Rev Solo to sound better. The feedback I got here was that the first step in the sound is to get the best pickup/mic you can and worry about a preamp later.

I bought the Full Circle and my issues improved. I play small to medium clubs on a regular basis and the Full Circle holds out well. I use the Platinum Pro Eq with it. I used the same preamp with the Realist, and it didn't work as well.

YMMV, FWIW, IMHO...

Full circle isn't that easy to get hold of in the uk, and i'd have to get adjusters etc, it just isn't worth it, having to buy another pickup which for all i know could sound worse.
