Help me find manufacturing year on Peavey head?

Hey everybody

Just picked up a Peavey Mark III bass head earlier today, and just for kicks I'm trying to figure out what year it was manufactured. It's a Peavey Mark III bass head, SN: 976872

If anybody can help, please let me know!

When I have tried to date older Peavey products in the past, the only thing that would work was calling Peavey customer support. They have to look up each serial number to determine when it was built.

I may have gotten the info by email...I just can't remember. I'd give it a try before I called.

They are generally very helpful.

well, i bought my mark IV new in 1985. at that time i think the mark IV was a year or two old as a model and had replaced the III

I love those old Peavey heads.

Thanks guys I emailed Peavey, and of course they no longer will give you the date because there's something wrong with their machine or some nonsense. But, I think I'm just gonna assume that it was made mid 70's to early 80's for now

Most likely 79' or 80'.
If you wanna dream, 78' or 81'.
Not a real hard stretch either way, as Peavey made a ton of those.
Mark III Series, and all.
My Friend has a Mark III Standard.. it was a pain to find a schematic.
Their R&D Department was rather slacking in the name department... Haha.

Peavey REALLLLLLLLLLLY turned those amps out, and most of them are still running. (Maybe a Cap job, etc)
Take care of it... and that amp'll out last your grand children.

that whole series was great. the power sections in the tnt (and related keyboard amp) and in the mark series (the one that was 300 @ 2, 210 @ 4, and who knows @ 8) were both workhorses. ditto on those preamps. Very meat and potatos, not the best, not the worst.

Yep- I agree.
If you ask me, new and trendy amps will come and go, and be replaced by something even higher tech, but these Peavey's will still be out there, putting out like they've done sine 1979.
You can also get them for hardly anything, my pal got his MKIII Standard for like $60...
I'm not sure why more new and coming players don't get on these... Oh well.
