I'm kinda new to guitars and amps, soooo yea! I bought an amp, it's a 150 watt amp head, it's paired up with a 4X12 cab, when I first got all of those, of course I plugged them up so I could play and as soon as I flip that power button on, my amp just burnt out, so I'm wondering if I need to plug my amp into a power strip or a power surge protector?

The ohms rating for the amp-out must be matched to the ohms rating for the speaker setup. (If the amp is rated 150 watts @ 8 ohms and you connect a 4 ohm speaker setup to it, it'll fry it).
OP, if you want us to help you have to provide exactly what equipment we are dealing with. There is a huge amount of information available to you from many knowledgeable folk both layman and engineer. What we don't have is a crystal ball.
What our friend above is alluding to is that SS amps have a minimum impedance that they can safely drive. Most will handle a 4Ω load and some can cope with a 2Ω load. Some though can only drive an 8Ω load minimum.
Tube amps are a different animal all together and their minimums differ and maximums become more important.
