Help me please

Hello everybody, before I start up things I would like to say sorry for my poor english that I might use because english is not my mother tongue as I live in a remote country called NEPAL, land of himalayas.

I am really happy to see this forum, I collected money for 3 years and buyed a bass guitar, I am 19 years old, but as I dont have money to afford to go to a tutor to learn bass guitar I have been a failure, it's been nearly a year i have buyed bass guitars but I have failed to play it, depresses me a lot but I haven't stopped. I tried to search things online about how to play and stuffs but all i get is a sadness as all of the sites charges money, I can't express how much happy I m to see this forum and now again I have a hope that I can learn bass.

I beleive that music must not be commercialized, I have a bass guitar but do not have an amp, but i m collecting some money for it too, meanwhile I am playing it in my computer and my sound card is almost wreched.

I would be more than happy if someone would teach me the right way to play bass. I see many people over here and undoubtfully some great bass players, I know this would be boring for you as I mention I donot have any money to pay you but I would from heart thank you, so I am in need of a tutor who can guide me well.

I have a 4 string bass guitar, not a good one though, and I have intrest in progressive rock, blues , psychedelic rock. My best bands are pink floyd, led zeppelin, CCR, the who, dire straits, and on.

Please help me ? :(

I think this belongs in instruction- that said, be patient & scour the web; there's a ton of free stuff available, and at the very least, you can plug your bass in & play along w/whatever music you like. In my experience, bass is fairly self-explanatory(make your bass sound like the tunes you like :cool:). There's much more to it than that of course- dig around here(TB). And welcome to TB & the low end. :D

I feel you, kiddo. Wish I could help, but if you can't afford lessons all I can suggest is to get some method books, maybe video lessons, and just keep working at it.

Thank you for the suggestion, I m surely gon'na try something out.
I learned bass with a tutor for 1 month, he is a guiness world record holder, he made the shortest song bar of 17 bar but later i couldnt afford it as life is hard. :atoz:

Hey welcome to talkbass! Ive been playing for almost two years now but last year I was in the same situation as you i could no lonegr afford my lessons and had to keep going some how. I found that videos from youtube helped a little bit but the best free resource i found was Cyberfretbass. They offer free online instructions how to play your new bass and how to read music as well! I found that what i learned from Cyberfrettbass helped me more then my teacher did when the teacher i had when i first took lessons. Best of luck !

Also i think Nepal is a very neat place My dads sister and her Family lived there for 5 years. I would really like to go there one day.

Thanks a lot, yes I try to learn from guitar pro and all, i try to hit the songs directly but don't like to do that, and about self- explanatory part, my teacher taught me bass on rhythme guitars so still I am not sure about the right way to hit the strings and all and thats the part I make mistake.

I'll join others in offering you a big welcome to TalkBass! (BTW. Your English is more than understandable.) :)

Here's a track which features some groovy bass playing & classic electric bass tone: Gov't Mule - Thorazine Shuffle

If you're interested in archiving any on-line bass videos to your computer's hard drive for off-line study later on...

In Ubuntu or Ubuntu Studio (both are legally free Debian Linux-based operating systems & applications sets which run on PCs):

1) Play the YouTube video until it ends.

2) Collapse Firefox's window (but don't quit FF).

3) Open the tmp folder and you'll see the video temporarily cached there.

4) Drag said video out onto the desktop and rename it with the video's title and the extension .flv (for Flash video).

I expect that a similar approach will work with other web browsers in other operating systems.

Welcome to the TB KIDDO!
Lots of good advice here. That's the great thing about TB, lots of good folk here and tons of information to help with all aspects of playing.
Keep working at it and enjoying the experience of making music and I'm sure you'll keep improving and things will make more and more sense.
Seems to work for this old ex-guitar player.:D

Welcome! Firstly, I would just like to confess that I have never had a proper music lesson in my life. Secondly, I would like to add that youtube is my teacher ;)

www.youtube.com search for bass lesson. You may find a lot of useless, uninteresting, and just downright awful stuff on there, but then you will always find one or two briliant videos!

thanks a lot, I m certainly trying the best from youtube, but the thing is i get so many lessons that i dont know where to start from to be honest, plus it takes a lot of time for youtube video to load here in my country, for eg: i need to wait for 10 minutes+ to watch a 2 min video on youtube.

anyways, no more excuses and yes I am going to prove myself as a good bassist one day :)

That's the spirit! :)

BTW. My Internet connection is slow too, which is why I archive useful music videos to my PC's hard drive.
