Help me set up my apple wireless keyboard

before i return this to the supplier, i want to see what you guys would do in this situation:

i have a macbook pro and i bought a new apple wireless keyboard. I tried to go to system prefrences and then to set up new device under bluetooth. After the bluetooth setup assistant asks me to type in the number to pair with the computer, my keyboard doesn't recognize it.

i've even tried putting new batteries in and making sure the keyboard is right next to the computer.

any suggestions?

I had the exact problem when I set up my mom's keyboard a few weeks ago.

I called Apple support, and they suggested the keyboard was broken, which I knew was not the case.

I just ended up using another USB keyboard to get the computer started, and then just set it up under preferences once OSX was set up.

It sucks that they don't have any sort of fix for this, but if you need to, you can just buy another keyboard to set things up, then take it back.

are you running snow leopard? ive read about a few issues with bluetooth not connecting

You are typing the requested code into the laptop keyboard and NOt trying to type it in with the BT keyboard, correct?

yeah sweetwater is sending a new one. we'll see what happens. right now I'm on tiger 10.4.11 but I bought snow leopard and plan on installing it after all the software companies that I use give it the green light
