Help me understand....why use micro and short scale basses?

I just took delivery (yesterday!)on a new Ibanez SRC6 Crossover, discontinued as af this month I am told. Came from the factory with Elixirs, oh- 30" scale, 6 strings, passive EMG's, 9V preamp- feels amazing, although very poorly set up, which I am in the process of remedying(?). I have not plugged it in yet, but am completely thrilled with the way it feels, super comfortable 24 fret neck, and extremely light. I wanted something different, and I think this is it. Not sure if I will tune it like a guitar E A D G B E, or E A D G C F. STring gauges are .25-.74, I think, but overall, I am happy with everything so far. I wanted an instrument that would give me some different tones, and hopefully provide some inspiration. I have high hopes, and cannot wait to fire it up with the band on Monday. I will keep you all posted!

SS versus LS , there is no "winner " or "better sounding" bass as far as I am concerned. Last week I took a track of mine that I'd originally recorded with a PBass. I was completely happy with it and then decide to redo the bass using my Hofner ignition ($ 249 at Sweetwater). Much to my surprise, I preferred the sound of the Hofner. It's a toss up but no matter what anyone says, if you like the sound, that's what matters - not the scale or the make.
