Help me with setting up a pedal board for dynamic playing

I want to achieve something that I am sure of is not new but I can't seem to get my head around how it must be done:

I have a pedal board going p-bass->Keeley Comp Pro->Tech21 Character VT->(Way Huge Swollen Pickle MK IIS)->amp

When I play a song I like to have a fuzz/drive pedal engaged only at certain spots in the song. Instead of having to switch it on/off I like to be able to swell it in with a volume or expression pedal. So whenever I play a fill and I want some extra drive, I can swell it in and out. When the volume/exp pedal is in the off position the drive/fuzz must be out of the loop as if it was turned off, or at least not affecting the signal.
In this example I use the Swollen Pickle as an example but it could also be a vibrato or chorus pedal, anything, but I don't want to click on it, I like to swell it in and out with a volume/swell pedal.

Can this be done?
How and what do I need to set this up?

Source audio Ultrawave with expression pedal can be configured exactly like this with the morph function. I'm sure there are other ways, but this was the first that came to my mind. And I believe it would be ideal for this application because you can configure several distortion parameters to morph simultaneously with the expression pedal.

Thank you but I like to use the (pile of too many) pedals I already have. So I guess I need some kind of looper thing that can blend in and out, and this needs to be controlled with an exp/vol pedal...

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, this is exactly what's in the link I posted above.
"When the expression pedal is connected to the EXP terminal, the 0-100% knob can be operated with the expression pedal."
