Quick anecdote-
I just picked up a 2-fer-1 Con Funk Shun disc...in the liners, (bandleader) Felton Pilate sez the band in its earliest days was called Project Soul.
Record execs thought the name might alienate some potential buyers.
So the band comes up with Con Funk Shun.
Pilate sez "...they did not like "Soul", but "Funk" was OK"?
