Help Picking Out a Bass

I'm playing some funky groove tunes and was looking at a few basses. Just came into some money and it's burning a big hole in my pocket lol. Around 400 bucks.

I was looking at the Squier CV 51, but wanted to see if anyone knew of any decent quality off brand basses.

Any recommendations?

The Squier CV is absolutely worth the $350., but there are imo better basses to be had with that amount.

Early 80's Squier JV(Squier's golden era)
2002-Current MIM Fender Precision and Jazz(alder body)
Early 90's JP90 and Prodigy basses, Plus Deluxe Precision and Jazz

Some poor guy could be selling his American Standard on craigslist for $400.
