So I've been doing some research on amps and such for about a month and a half now. I'm looking into getting a new amp set up with a kind of specific sound. I've looked at a lot of amp heads, but two have caught my eye. The Mesa Boogie M6 and the Fender TB-600 are the top two on my list right now. I can't really try either of these out because the Guitar Center near me has such a small bass section. I normally play punk rock or classic rock music. I would like to have some what of close sound to the bass in Longview by Green Day. It's not something I would always want to sound like but I would like the option to sound close to it. I'm wondering if either the M6 or the TB-600 could help with that. I would also like to hear any other options out there.

Help picking out the right amp head

longview was done on a precision into an svt/810. you are now going to get answers ranging from "get the m6" to "get the fender" to "get something else entirely." i think either of those amps would get you in the ballpark, though. if it were me, i'd probably go for the fender since it's got one of the best preamps in the business, but the m6 would also get it done. still, even though it's heavy, i'd take an svt over either of them any day of the week.
Actually more important than an amp for that tone would be to have a P bass with fresh roundwound strings put on.
Loves me some Mesa bass gear, but between those two, I'd opt for the Fender. And, for the exact reason Jimmy mentioned, the preamp. It really is one of the very best.
Alright a bit late on replying because of work, but I've tried to do as much research on the TB-600 but I kept ending up back to these forums. I think I heard some sound clips of the m6 some time ago. I was wondering if anyone could properly describe what I can expect form the TB-600 or maybe some sound clips. Also I do have a P Bass and J bass, and I also happen to have a new pack of rw strings that I have yet to put on.
