Help Save a Dog

OK RANT ON: My biggest reason? Its a damn dog. An animal. Yet it has 34.000 petitions, a congressman, and an entire charity pulling in for it. Could you imagine 34.000 petitions for a prisoner of war to be released? Or 34.000 petitions for a child in an orphanage to get proper medical treatment? I don't think so. I just checked the yahoo news front page, and this is the third top story in the politics section.

I mean, a dog's life is still a life, and it should be respected as such. But it is still an animal. But people go all gaga when an animal gets less than perfect treatment. If it makes the news, people will cry their hearts out until said animal is "saved". Yet people are dying and being mistreated all the time, and there in the news all the time. But that's just news, not a dire threatening emergency I guess?

There are much more pressing issues out there than to worry about a single dog that needs a home. My city is small, 1/2 million people, yet there are over 4000 animals that have to be euthanized every year because there are no homes for them. I respect what this organization is doing in trying to help the helpless, but there are plenty of other animals here in our home that they could be fretting for.

And no, I won't sign a petition, but I will respond to a thread about it. Why? In my opinion a petition is something that a person signs in that he or she believes is a right and noble cause for the betterment of society or for their own personal benefit. It would take me two minutes of my time to sign my name and other contact info. It will take me the same time to post a quick reply here on TB.

Call me a black hearted scum if you will, but I do not believe this is something that is worthy of my time and name. I have three dogs from the shelters, many cats, goats, chickens, and a few other odds and ends of animals, and I take care of them all equally. It is sad to see them go, but its part of life. Seeing someone so attached to an animal that they go to these measures, I believe is wrong. Sorry, there are much more important issues than animals. RANT OFF

PS: If you opened a thread on any internet forum (especially TB OT), and did not expect opinions other than your own to surface, I can't help you. This is a fourm, not a bulletin board. People discuss and present there opinions on forums.

you're missing the entire point. this is not a dog in a shelter, it is someone's dog.

you speak about signing petitions for someone, here's your chance.

IMHO, and only mine I guess, your rant is hypocritcal. by trying to help the dog, you are helping another human.

Important things in life start with taking action upon the small things and then they grow into the bigger things.

You can maintain your position on this and do nothing; that's your right. but if you can't find 1 minute from your life to do something so simple to help another human being, who went above and beyond in her service to your country, what must the cause be? who must it be for? when must it occur?

IMHO it's a noble cause and the time is now. I'm sorry for you that it doesn't meet your standards.

That is a foolish ideal. Life is life, be it an ant or a human. Look at the damage humans have done to our world and to all the other species on this planet, and your value of human life may very soon drop.

Nope. My value for human life will always be above ANY animal. A person is a person, and an animal is an animal. I'm block headed that way.

Nope, I still can not get over the fact that this is still for a dog. I will spend my time, effort, money, and name elsewhere for something that I believe is more worthy.

I'm sorry that you have your opinion on my thought. Your sorry that I have my opinion on your thoughts. This is how it is. If you still wish to discuss this with me, feel free to do so by PM as I will not disrespect your opinions in your thread anymore.

No offense or hard feelings.

If i was going to donate money or time or anything to help US troops in Iraq, it would be for something like additional armor for humvees against IED attacks, or some care packages or somthin. Human life should never be less valued than an animal.

Your not block headed, you're smart, its common sense (i hope in our society) that human life is more important than an animal

could someone please explain to me how this thread has gone from human life is more important than canine life thread?

my god, all I asked was for you fellow tbers to sign a petition to bring someone's dog home, back to the good old USA. if you can't do it, then shut your mouths and stop preaching from your ivory towers. one issue has nothing to do with the other. enough already. this dog is someones kevlar. if you don't get that by now, then I don't know what to say anymore:mad: enough. it's about helping this woman, not just the dog.

Crusader, thanks for bringing it to our attention. It took me all of thirty seconds to sign. There aren't many good deeds I can do in thirty seconds. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to do something good, and in turn feel like we've done something for two people (her and I) and a canine.

Didn't Ghandi say something to the effect of "you can judge a society by the way it treats its animals?"

I don't understand how the thread got derailed either. I think you did a good deed, and appreciate what you did. The negatives just don't get it and never will. Too bad for them.

Thank you. I apologize to all of you guys if I get too passionate sometimes. But I said what I meant, and I meant what I said.

You did a good thing, who cares what the rest think? Congratulations!

Thanks to Crusader, too, for not only starting the thread but posting that the doggie's coming home. That's great news!

BTW, I just had to put my best bud to sleep after 5 years of pure joy. If I knew that starting a petition drive would bring her back, I'd do it in a minute. For those who don't understand: you never will.
