HELP!! Strap lock problems on my Warwick Thumb nt

Ok so im in need of serious help. I have an internal strap lock on my Warwick Thumb nt and it works if your basically standing still but if I move a little bit it pops out of the female part of the lock. Is there anyone here know how to fix it or do i have to replace the entire system?

Well, question is whether or not the problem resides with the male pin or female receptacle...both are prone to wear to some degree. Try this: hook up the opposite end of the strap and see if it holds. If it pops out as well, I'd highly suspect the receptacle. Not to worry as it can be removed / replaced easily by backing out the retaining screw. If it the cylindrical type with smooth outer wall, I have a couple black ones I can spare.

Warwick strap locks are notorious for this. The wear out quickly. Your best bet is to install Dunlop or Schaller. Your bass is expensive. As awesome as Warwick basses are, the strap locks just don't cut it.

I had a '98 Thumb with this issue. I removed the female ends, doweled the holes, stained the dowel ends to match, drilled new holes for Schaller strap buttons, installed the new Schaller strap buttons, and called it a day. Never had a problem again. In fact, this helped with neck dive ever so slightly.

Both components appear to be fairly well-worn. Remove the screw and pull the female / receptacle from the bass itself...just wanna make sure.

I seem to remember that the Warwick straplocks and the Dunlops were just a bit off from each other, as far as ID/OD.

I'd second Zooberwerx suggestion of getting a new matched set.

Well, they sure look the same as what I have in my drawer and I have the strapends but not the screws (I think). Good point: might want to check the websites to make sure they're one and the same. I'll check my junk drawer for the screws.

Just to clarify...the female piece of both the Dunlop and Warwick fit into the bass body fine. What I remember is that the Dunlop strap end (male) was a looser fit in the Warwick (female) receptacle on the bass.

It could be the problem here, as the the OP's strap ends are gold Dunlops, and the bass has black inserts (stock Warwick).

Easy solution it a new set of Dunlops (on the bass and on the strap)... they are better quality than the Warwicks as shaft311 mentioned.

Get some small toothpicks and wood glue and screw in the original strap lock button tightly. Then get a Grolsch washer and put it over the strap but under the button. That is ALL you need. I've stopped using regular strap locks because this is superior. And you can put your bass down normally without removing the strap lock first and without worrying about it falling over because the strap lock sticks out so far and doesn't balance well.

The problem with that is that they are Dunlop Flush Mount Straplocks.

AFAIK, the stock Warwick hardware is Dunlop and here ya go: a complete set. Want 'em? I even found the screws.
