Hello,

I received my custom bass a few weeks ago and it rocks! But it has developed some string rattle, and its gotten worse and it can be heard through the amp

I have a gig tomorrow and it needs fixing, no time to go to the shop as i live in the UK etc...

The rattle is only on the E string and i believe its touching on the 2nd fret...

How easy is it to sort.... ive never done it before.. i have all the tools i need etc....

Do i need to do something to the bridge or something at the top of the neck...

I dont want to damage it!

First, I would make an adjustment to the bridge saddle on the E string. Turning the height screws down (clockwise) raises the saddle which raises the string.
When you have time, (after your gig), learn how to do setups. See the "Sticky" links and teach yourself the proper procedure. Every bassist should know how to adjust his action to his own personal liking. If you don't want to learn, for whatever reason, take it to a Luthier.

If it's at the second fret you need to adjust the nut. The nut slot is too deep. So the ghetto solution is to cut a tiny piece of paper into a square and place it in the slot, under the string. You may find that one thickness isn't enough.
Permanent fix involves baking soda, crazy glue, and a file.

Its a custom medium scale Landing bass, id love to be able to setup the bass myself im just not very manual or practical haha and im afraid to damage something that cost so much..!

I understand the bridge bit, in regards to the paper under the nut... the nut is where?? lol

What temp & how long in the oven?
